ISLAMABAD: Amid fears of international isolation and recent incidents at major international airports in Pakistan, the government has tasked the Army to ensure security at these airstrips, a top aviation official said on Saturday.

Talking to reporters, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Aviation Shujaat Azeem, said the army and Rangers will be providing security at landing areas and main installations of Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad and Peshawar airports.

These airports, located inside or very close to densely populated areas, had been classified as vulnerable to threats.
On June 8, militants launched a brazen attack on Jinnah International Airport in Karachi leaving at least 29 dead.

Two weeks later, a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) passenger plane came under fire while landing at the Bacha Khan International Airport in Peshawar. A female passenger aboard the aircraft was killed and two crew members were injured prompting major international airlines to suspended their operations in Peshawar.
“Pakistan army will secure a funnel area and important installations at these four airports” Azeem said.
Once again Pakistan army is the don who took the responsibility to secure the nation.

MIRANSHAH: A key terrorist and mastermind of Karachi airport attack, Abu Abdul Rehman Almani, is reportedly killed in air strikes of security forces launched in North Waziristan areas in early morning today.

Pakistan Air Force (PAF) fighter jets had bombed hideouts of terrorists in North Waziristan Agency (NWA) today. Nearly 80 militants, mainly ethnic Uzbek fighters, were killed in the latest air assault in the region bordering Afghanistan where some of militants and al Qaeda commanders are based, sources said.
“Fighter jets targeted militant hideouts in the village of Dagan near the Pakistani-Afghan border,” said one source in the regional capital of Miranshah.

Malaysia Jet Passengers Likely Suffocated, Australia Says

SYDNEY: The passengers and crew of the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 most likely died from suffocation and coasted lifelessly into the ocean on autopilot, a new report released by Australian officials on Thursday said.

In a 55-page report, the Australian Transport Safety Board outlined how investigators had arrived at this conclusion after comparing the conditions on the flight with previous disasters, although it contained no new evidence from within the jetliner.

The report narrowed down the possible final resting place from thousands of possible routes, while noting the absence of communications and the steady flight path and a number of other key abnormalities in the course of the ill-fated flight. “Given these observations, the final stages of the unresponsive crew/hypoxia event type appeared to best fit the available evidence for the final period of MH370′s flight when it was heading in a generally southerly direction,” the ATSB report said.

All of that suggested that the plane most likely crashed farther south into the Indian Ocean than previously thought, Australian officials also said, leading them to announce a shift farther south within the prior search area.

The new analysis comes more than 100 days after the Boeing 777, carrying 239 passengers and crew, disappeared on March 8 shortly after taking off from Kuala Lumpur bound for Beijing.
Investigators say what little evidence they have to work with suggests the plane was deliberately diverted thousands of kilometres from its scheduled route before eventually plunging into the Indian Ocean.

The search was narrowed in April after a series of acoustic pings thought to be from the plane’s black box recorders were heard along a final arc where analysis of satellite data put its last location.
But a month later, officials conceded the wreckage was not in that concentrated area, some 1,600 km (1,000 miles) off the northwest coast of Australia, and the search area would have to be expanded.
“The new priority area is still focussed on the seventh arc, where the aircraft last communicated with satellite. We are now shifting our attention to an area further south along the arc,” Australian Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss told reporters in Canberra.

Truss said the area was determined after a review of satellite data, early radar information and aircraft performance limits after the plane diverted across the Malaysian peninsula and headed south into one of the remotest areas of the planet.
“It is highly, highly likely that the aircraft was on autopilot otherwise it could not have followed the orderly path that has been identified through the satellite sightings,” Truss said.

The next phase of the search is expected to start in August and take a year, covering some 60,000 sq km at a cost of A$60 million ($56 million) (32.89 million pounds) or more. The search is already the most expensive in aviation history.

The new priority search area is around 2,000 km west of Perth, a stretch of isolated ocean frequently lashed by storm force winds and massive swells.

Two vessels, one Chinese and one from Dutch engineering company Fugro, are currently mapping the sea floor along the arc, where depths exceed 5,000 metres in parts.
A tender to find a commercial operator to conduct the sea floor search closes on Monday. – Reuters

BAHAWALPUR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chaimran Imran Khan announced at a rally in Bahawalpur on Friday evening that the time to open up investigations into vote rigging in the four constituencies is over, Express News reported on Friday.

He warned that the government now had only one month to comply with his four demands otherwise there will be a tsunami march on August 14 in Islamabad.
“The entire Pakistan knows that the general elections were rigged,” he boomed from the stage.
Khan demanded that the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) reveal declared themselves victorious at 11:20pm on the day of the elections when only 15% of the results had come.

The PTI leader further demanded to know why there weren’t any returning officers under the election commission of Pakistan (ECP) and what the former Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry was doing.

He further demanded to know what the role of Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Najam Sethi’s was during the elections.

Pointing towards the FAFEN report where 90 constituencies electoral list was published, he asked why votes from 35 constituencies were replaced by returning officers?

IDPs
Khan urged Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif not to do politics on internally displaced persons (IDPs).

He said that Nawaz has asked him to visit the IDPs with him but there is no point of them going and taking pictures there. He further added, that if  the prime minister was actually concerned he would have informed him about the operation beforehand.

Saying that the burden of IDPs will fall on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government, Khan said that he and his government in the province could not prepare for the IDPs as they found out that the army has launched a military operation against the militants through television.

The PTI leader said it is the country’s obligation to support the IDPs and we should not leave them stranded.
Khan questioned why the Punjab and Sindh governments have refused to let the IDPs enter their provinces.

Aid efforts have been stepped up to cope with the exodus and Afridi, who was born in Pakistan’s tribal areas, said he wanted to help.
