Friday Khutba in Urdu and languages starts in Masjid Al-Haram & Masjid Nabwi.
JEDDAH: For the benefit of non-Arabic speaking worshipers members of the Shura Council have called for the immediate translation of Friday sermons in Urdu and English. This Service has started in the Holy Mosque of Makkah (Al Masjid Al Haram) in Makkah.
Sheikh Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais, president of the Two Holy Mosques Affairs, has said that simultaneous interpretation of Friday sermons in the Grand Mosque in Makkah has started. Muslims, who don't know Arabic, will get a chance to listen to a Khutba in English and Urdu also. Specially equipped interpretation booths were set up in the area and worshippers were given headphones before the beginning of a sermon free of charge.
The FM service in English and Urdu was accessible this Friday to worshippers. After evaluation, the service will be expanded to all areas of the Grand mosque and later to the Prophet's Mosque, reported by Al jazeera news agency.
About one million worshippers perform Friday prayers in the Al Masjid Al Haram mosque. The translation of sermon in different languages will be very beneficial for the worshippers. Such as numbers of Muslims from around the world come to Saudi Arabia on Umrah and Haj to fulfil their religious obligations, the translation of Friday Khutba will give more satisfying feeling to them Abdul Aziz Al-Thunayyan, a member of the Shoura, said "The translation of the Khutba (semon ) at the Grand Mosque in Makkah is very important, this can be done by hand out interpretation receivers at a nominal fee to those who can afford or get free of cast" Maj. Gen Ibrahim Al-maiman, another council member, supported Al-Thunayyan's views and highlighted the need to employ Saudis at the two mosques.
This service has now also started in Masjid Nabawi, Medina.
